Some patterns I made over the weekend. Plus SJP “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” Dance-Off!!

I felt like doing some abstract work on Sunday morning. I’m usually very representational but I just got my drawing board set up and did not feel like being bogged down with reference so I took out my colored inks and started playing around with color and shape. The patterns above are what I came up with after layering my paintings digitally. I have so much fun working this way. It feels like a break from what I usually do. Freedom! I wish I could make the patterns into dresses, coats, and pillows…someday perhaps.

* Tangentially but awesomely, Here’s the best dance off ever with Sarah Jessica Parker.

News:

We just finished the mantle off in the bedroom with an antique mirror I found at a cute shop around the block.

My husband and I decided what we’re going to eat on our 1 year wedding anniversary in June. Here’s a picture of it from Mad Baker.

My mother in law just sent me this beautiful view of the world.

A love affair with wallpaper: My coffee table on Ferm Living’s Blog, and the wallpaper art of Dallas Shaw

I am like a wallpaper stalker….if it’s Ferm Living papers we’re talking about. I first posted about them here, then I made friends with Christiana, Ferm’s US rep. Next, we traded some prints of my work for some large and lovely samples….then I could not resist ordering a roll of this. I used the sample of it for this DIY project that Christiana posted on Ferm Living Clever Spaces Blog here.

The blog universe seems to be in alignment…with wallpaper in mind at least, ’cause the same day my project was posted on Ferm, Dallas Shaw contacted me about her work. Serendipitously enough I’ve been meaning to post about her for a while. I saw her on Bloesom a while back and she’s represented by my friend Jessica in the Shiny Squirrel Shop. I used to make cards for friends using wallpaper as a dress or pattern in a picture, Dallas uses it as her canvas or paper for prints and paintings (I love the object prints above). Her work is fashionable, bold, and graphic. I’m so glad she contacted me about it. I’m a fan!

Cool videos for your viewing pleasure: Indie boy bands making artsy videos…j’taime.

My husband is a book editor and his author played a small roll in this music video. You have to see. The video editing is superb (I think one of the guys in the band did it). I can’t believe how much footage they had to shoot and how intense it must have been to sync everything so perfectly with the music. Wow!

It reminds me of the home-grown team spirit….or rather band spirit of this one by Ok Go.

Speaking of boys doing cool videos, I’ve always loved this half-animated A-Ha video from the 80s:

Polyvore: A user friendly fashion DIY site. Make your dream outfit. Plus wacky post office story.

I was perusing Jeana Sohn’s blog the other day when I saw her post on Polyvore. My curiosity was struck. Within two minutes I was signed up and creating the fancy outfit above. I plan to use this to create my next limited palette outfit for Maquette. So far I’ve done blue, brown, yellow, and red.

If you have not had the chance to fall in love with Jeana Sohn’s artwork, now’s your chance.

* News: Due to all the work getting our new apartment together I was delayed in getting the glicee prints people have ordered out to them. When I went to the post office last Thursday they did not have any stiff photo mailers left so I had to buy soft envelops. The postal lady gave me a huge serated bread knife to cut apart larger cardboard mailers to put into the envelopes to protect the prints. It was sort of crazy if you think about it, a postal worker giving a customer a huge knife in the middle of a post office. Anyway, the prints I owed people are finally in the mail…fheww.

Tomorrow is “Table Tuesday”. I’m going to post all the photos of the finished tables I’ve been stripping, sanding, urethaning, painting, & oiling. They look good so tune in!

Oh and this is what I would wear to the oscars and my wedding if I could do it all again!
