The Coolest Umbrellas (Senz)and rain accoutrement (Tretorn & Hunter)

rain gear

Come rain or shine I’m swimming!! We just found a lovely apartment in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn to rent. We love it. It’s on a lovely quiet block, all brownstones. We’re in a second floor walk up. It’s sunny and full of character. I might have to start posting my new obsessions about design and decor. I can’t wait to get the place looking like home. Stay tuned for updates! And now for the rain gear:

I love these amazing Senz wind resistant umbrellas (up to 70mph!). They’re aerodynamic and great aesthetically to boot. Oh and speaking of boots, I adore my Tretorn waterproof boots in rose. I wear them all the time (they were procured out of necessity during an ice/rain last month in which my un-sensible flats got drenched and my feet too). They’re cute, quite comfy, waterproof, as well as lined. For men these Hunter original wellies are cool looking and functional. They seem like something Prince Wills might don. Oh and I just saw these cute Hunter’s for women with free fleece socks for the insides, oh cozy…on Shopbop.

Artists are Mammals: Mammal Magazine by mammalian illustrators/bloggers.

Yesterday was newsy so I’ll keep today’s brief, brief: I was the guest on Moldawer in the Morning podcast again if you want to hear us talk about Edgar Allen Poe’s grave, robots, and tigers. News done.

I knew a pack of boys in college that lived in a ramshackle house called “Sugartown”. They even had the kitschy light-up sign to prove it. The cohabitants of this modern animal house were talented illustrators. They were post ironic before the Brooklyn hipsters even got to ironic. They finished making lascivious video art before Dash Snow ever curled up in his first hamster nest. They were passionate about their art while maintaining a sense of humor and self deprecation. In terms of raw talent they matched R. Crumb, Norman Rockwell, and Frank Frazetta combined. I looked up to them as they worked slumped over on the floor in front of the t.v, in their rooms at a professional drawing table, or at the studio on campus.

They collaborated on this fantastic project called Mammal Magazine. It recently launched. It’s tongue and cheek, clever, witty, ironic, and post ironic at the same time. Each illo and comic is created with fun and aplomb. You’ll just have to see it to get the full picture. To catch Mammal news, subscribe to the Mammal blog.

Here are the boys that made the magic happen:

Finally, here’s the info you wanted about the cool goodies:

There Will Be Blood but not from Laser Cut Mirrors

Ok so I just got home from the movie, There Will Be Blood by P.T Anderson. I’m not going to attempt to be a film blogger but I have to say this film is not for the faint of heart. Paul Dano and Daniel Day Lewis earned their daily bread on this one. I have not seen such intensity in as long as I can remember. The music was so foreboding that I felt my heart clenching up….that feeling basically lasted the entire film as my knuckles turned white from squeezing my M&M bag. A truly incredible film.

More on Macarons, I’m just obsessed.

more on macarons

Ok, I’m still obsessing about macarons since my last post about them. I want to go back to Paris so badly. My husband does too but thinks we should be saving for an apartment and paying bills. Ugh he’s so logical. Anyway for today’s post, I happened upon the macaron plates and went from there. When I do paint the walls of our perspective first home I think using color hunter and my favorite macaron colors is a great plan.

2 Macaron tea set via paris breakfasts blog (I could not find the set when I followed the link…it’s nice to look at though).

3 Macaron color palettes via color hunter. This one reminds me of my recent post about wear palettes.

If anyone knows where to get the macaron tea set online please let me know. Also, don’t think I’d hesitate to post more about macarons if anyone comes up with more cool macaron color sites, products, or any macaron items I’m unaware of. I’d like to be a macaron expert (eater/ looker at that is, not maker, they’re too complicated).

•In other news, I’m working on some Valentine’s Day cards that I’m going to make available for free to download so if anyone has any feedback so far, share share. Here they are on flickr in early drafts. I’ll have to make two versions of each, one with color background and one plain so people can choose whether they want to print on color or white paper. They’ll be 5 X 7. More to come.
