Marchesa illustrations: NYFW

Marchesa invited me backstage during NYFW to capture my perspective before the models hit the runway. Their gowns are utterly magical. The details are beyond exceptional. Models floated around in ombre toile and shimmering gold. It was something out of A Midsummer Night’s Dream rather than a rainy night in NYC. Anyway, I illustrated these images for them to share on Instagram.

Check out some work in progress on my ig, here and here.

I loved going backstage at the Gypsy Sport show. Rio Uribe the designer is a totally out of the box thinker and designer. He is the winner of the CFDA fashion fund. Vogue describes the brand this way “Gender norms don’t exist, height and body type are nonissues, and there’s no sense of uniformity in the beauty looks…” So you can imagine is was a pretty fresh scene backstage with models looking like city club kids not like boarding school girl models. I captured my perspective and then raced back to my studio to work from the reference photos.

2016-09-07 15.01.37 I was thrilled when designer Whitney Pozgay of Whit invited me to live paint her SS17 presentation during New York Fashion Week at The New York Academy of Art. The Cut hit me up to talk with her about her interactive show. Check out my conversation with her in this post. In addition to the interview and live painting the models with other artists, I also took photos behind the scenes. Check my Instagram for hyperlapse videos of the paintings being made.

New York fashion week is coming up and I’m excited to be covering it in a unique way. I hope to see lots of diversity this year. I have to say that I’ve seen things improving slowly though there’s still more room for change.
